June 2022

June was the busy month of traveling. I wanted to see some of this sites of North Dakota before I headed south to Eden Valley in Colorado and I needed to be there by June 20th.

Camp meeting was the first weekend of June at Dakota Adventist Academy out side of Bismarck so I thought well I could go to camp meeting and then see some of the sites around Bismarck and then head West and then on over to Medora for the musical one more time before I left.

Schell Recreation Area

On my way camp meeting outside of Bismarck I stayed one night at Schnell recreation area. The Campground is a good Campground with a few sites not close together it was in the Prairie with quite a few Birds. I had a restful night there then in the morning I drove on up to Dakota Adventist Academy just north a Bismarck I was able to find a nice spot to park for the weekend on campus. On Sabbath two of the young men of the Bowman Adventist Church were baptized in the Missouri River which was only a few miles from the campus of DAA.

On Sunday I moved over to a campground just a few miles from Dakota Adventist Academy where I stayed for a couple of days. Sunday afternoon I went over and rode the river boat down the Missouri River

Flowers in bloom around the campsite

The campsite was was next to the water treatment plant of Bismarck and only a few feet from the Missouri River. It was nice to sit back and relax the day was cloudy and we had some rain most of the day.

The Missouri River

This was the site of the Madan Indians. They had quite a colony there. They had gardens, built their homes in the side of the hills, using rocks. It was an interesting place.

Fort Mandan

Heading north I drove up to Washburn North Dakota for the Lewis and Clark interpretive Center it was quite impressive to see the fort the Expeditions team which was about 75 men lived in the fort bringing supplies with them and cooking out here during the winter.

From there I drove down to Glen Ullin from there down to Heart Butte Reservoir where I spent the night. Lake Tschida was just across the road.

The van was parked along side of the river.

The next day I drove West to Medora I would be attending the musical there that evening. This year the performances were around the theme of the old theater in Medora and the many uses. Weddings, church, plays, meetings.

One of the songs they sang and danced to was the old country song Elvira! That song was my son Johners song when was just a wee little one. It was enjoyable evening.

That night I stayed at Medora’s Campground which is at the edge of the Little Missouri River. The next morning I took a walk down to the river.

That morning I packed up my van and headed back to the farm it was a good week and I enjoyed my Adventures.

I packed up the van and headed back to the farm. It was a great Adventure I hope you all enjoyed seeing the sites too!

May 2022

April is gone and so is the snow promises for warmer weather is here, the family had a graveside service for the gentleman that I cared for. It was a windy but beautiful day along with the services that they had for him.

A few days later Ketty I wanted to go for a drive, we wanted to go somewhere that we hadn’t been before but close enough for a days drive. So we drove south into South Dakota and then over to Riva Gap Campground we hiked around and saw the sites then we went and found a camp site with picnic table and sat down and played a game of Scrabble, for a couple hours. Oh so much fun! And then headed on home.

About a week later Ketty has a friend in Minnesota so we took some time and drove up to see her.

Many fields in North Dakota that were flooded. Also the Red River was almost overflowing onto the highway.

Red River just as we crossed into Minnesota from North Dakota.

We went in to a few of the towns and saw some of the sites in the area. Warroad was one of the towns we visited and it is at the border of Canada. The lake we visited separated the US from Canada.

Looking across Muskeg Bay into Canada 🍁

We had a great visit with her friend. On the way back into North Dakota we saw many areas of flooded field. As we driving West it rained for more than a hour. North Dakota and Minnesota were greener than I had ever seen. We enjoyed our trip and had a good time.

April 2022

April was quite a month. That first week the gentleman I was caring for was not feeling well and not getting better. So the decision was made that he needed to go into the hospital and be checked out the doctor decided that he needed to stay and run some tests to see what was going on.

The next week his daughter came to be with him. I was at the farm and 20 miles from town all by myself. Tuesday came it started to snow and the wind blew up to 50 miles an hour or more! So what was I to do, I couldn’t go anywhere nothing much to do at the house. I got out my quilt I had been working on and begin putting the pieces together for the backing. It snowed like that for a 3 days! The wind was blowing the snow so hard I could hardly even see out the windows most the time. So I was thankful for being able to work on that quilt to distract me.

When the winds and the snow finally stopped I tried to get out and take a walk to see how things were, I didn’t get very far, the snow had piled up on the front porch couldn’t get the door open and the back door I could only get a few feet from the house!

After his son came with the tractor and plowed out a path to the road I was able to get into town. And then a few days later the son and I went to see the gentleman in the hospital. That evening after we had left the hospital the daughter called and said he passed away. He had lived a long life and he was ready to rest till Jesus comes.

Then that weekend it snowed again this time not as much but it was cold and windy.

An April that will not be forgotten very soon!

January through March 2022.

January and February brought below-freezing temperatures and snow! My days off were consisted of working on a craft project or going to town.

I was trying to decide on what my next craft project would be. I began to think of all the leftover flannel fabric that I had and how to make use of it. So I tried and tried to come up with a pattern that I could use some of the smaller pieces. I was given some old jeans also, so I decided to use them in my project. This what I came up with.

When March came I I was more than ready take a break and do something other than being in the house. But it was still very cold and snowy.

A community play was putting on a program out in the country so some of my girlfriends and I decided we would go on a Sunday the play was “MASH”. The play was a good performance and the community did a great job. We enjoy it. Afterwards we drove to a a Community Church and had a pancake supper.

MASH

On Thursday that week I made reservations to stay in a Airbnb in Spearfish and do a little shopping and get some R&R.

Friday morning I woke up to snow on the ground. But I went out anyway to do a little bit of shopping. Then on Sabbath I went on to the church for the services there then they Fellowship lunch. That afternoon I drove back to the farm. Part way back the wind had gotten so bad that I decided that it would be best to pullover for a while then maybe it would calm down. I waited an hour or so and then headed back to the farm.

I’m still here chapter 2

My next break came at near the end of July. July was very warm or should I say hot month but I needed to take a break. I purchased a ticket for the Medora Musical decided to go ahead and go. I found a nice Campground not far from Medora. The afternoon was very hot. So to stay out of the heat I got a ticket to go for the enactment of Teddy Roosevelt in the old theater. There was air conditioning there!. Then that evening I went over to the outdoor amphitheater for the musical it was a good show in spite of the heat.

The next day I decided it was just too hot to do much exploring around North Dakota so I started south. I stopped at the farm got a shower and then down to Spearfish where I found a campground in the canyon. It was so much cooler there where I spent a couple of days. On Sabbath I went to the Spearfish Church and had a nice afternoon with them.

Timon Campground in Spearfish Canyon.

After church I went into town and stopped by a little creek that ran through took off my socks and shoes and put my feet in the cool water then called my sis. Today was my birthday and we always have a good visit.

WHAT’S BEEN GOING ON?

I am still around! Life has busy crazy! I have taken a few trips since I last posted. I would be out sightseeing and then when I would get back, it was back to the busyness of caring for the gentleman again. I remember one time I started a post, I need to pause for work was calling. When I went back to work on it again it was gone! No pictures, no text.

View from the Stand

So to my frustration I put off writing! I haven’t thought much about writing again until a few days ago when a friend encouraged me to get back to it.

I am now in Colorado at Eden Valley Lifestyle Center just outside of Loveland Colorado working a produce stand for the summer so my plans will be maybe to post a few pictures from the last year when I was out on my travels so that you can see a few things that I saw.

Eden Valley, produce stand

The gentleman that I was caring for passed to rest this April I will truly miss him even though his last days were challenging days, he was able to be at “home”. Now I will take some time and go back into 2021 and share a few of my ventures along with a few pictures.

WYOMING

in May in 2021 one I spent a few days in Wyoming I went over to Gillette and spent a couple of days there and then over to Buffalo Wyoming and spent a day there. I visited the Woolen Mill and then to church on Sabbath. The church members took a drive to Kaycee and took a long back road where we were able to see the canyon of the Powder River. That afternoon we got a shower so you’ll see some of the pictures are kind of fuzzy because of the rain but it was a beautiful drov

After I had visited Buffalo I made my way North coming through Sheridan Wyoming and then into Montana it was a beautiful drive and then back to the to the farm

June 12-14th 2020

Its taken me a month to post this last time off. It was a short few days but good to get away. I went again to Spearfish for I knew I could shop there and get the things I needed. I stopped in at Robbs, in Belle Fourche and pickup groceries. When I started to put them away, I wondered why did I think I needed these. I have alot all ready! I like to keep canned beans and quick rice, quinoa and pasta packages so I can have a quick supper on the road. But now where to put all this food!

I also wanted to get some fabric for a quilt that I wanted to make for a baby that was coming for a friend of mine. I got there and low and behold the shop had closed up and moved out. I was able to find a second choose, and I did get some fabric, but not what I really wanted but it will work.

Friday evening I stayed at the city campground in Spearfish, nice place, I did have to pay, and was able to get a shower before church Sabbath morning.

Not my van, I didn’t get a picture here, stock picture, Spearfish SD Campgrounds

Sabbath morning I went on over the Spearfish church. Very nice building and great people there, I always enjoy visiting there. That morning the worship service was about fear the closing song was ” Any Where with Jesus” It was a perfect song a reminder to me. Because of the virus, they did not have a fellowship lunch. The wind was super high and a very warm afternoon, I decided not to go too far. Friday I had stopped at the Belle Fourche Reservoir and campground and talked to the lady at the entrance to the campground and she said that one could camp any where along the lake outside of the campground for free. There would not be any amenities but that was okay for I had all I needed. So I found a place along the lake, parked so that the wind was to my back and just enjoyed the afternoon.

Sunset to a great day.

Sunday morning I got up early because I didn’t know how high the wind would get and I would need to be back to the farm by Monday morning. So I decided to stay at Cave creek, Picnic campgrounds then I would only be about 25 minutes from the farm. On my way out I stopped at the little cafe between Belle Fourche and Buffalo SD. I got me biscuits and egg. I really nice place in the middle of no where. Got into the campground and found that my favorite spot was open, so I pulled in and got out my crocheting and a book and enjoyed my day there.

Picnic campground, Cave Hills

There had been 4 campers that were there when I came in and by evening I was the only one there. It was a beautiful evening and then on Monday Morning I came on back to the farm.

May 12,2020

Yesterday, the fellow I’m caring for was wanting to get out and go for a ride, so we took off to explore the country around the farm. Down one road and then another. Some we would go a mile or 2 then I’d have to turn around and go back out to the road we came from, the road led to a farmers place! It was fun to see and hear some of his stories of people he knew out there. There is an old town, not much there now. Haley is part of the name of the of the dam that is about 5 miles from us. Bowman, Haley Dam. We had a great time out exploring.

BURNING COAL VEINS NORTH DAKOTA

With so much going on, Ketty and I both are care givers we just needed a break from from it all, we decided to take a ride out to “Burning Coal Veins”. The weather was beautiful, we hadn’t had may warm sunny days. We pulled in one of the camp sites and fixed us a lunch there. Since the “Wonder Star” is still with necessities to cook, and I still had dried food in the drawers we were able to fix a good lunch.

I did not take a lot of notes for that day but I wanted to share the pictures of the day.

It was a beautiful day, we sure enjoyed our day.

May 7th

Spearfish Falls, Spearfish Canyon, SD

May 24th through the 26th I took off from the farm and went up to South Dakota. I spent Sabbath driving through Spearfish canyon. My friend Ketty meet me in Spearfish. The churches have been closed because of the virus. So we spent Sabbath with God in His first book, Creation. We fixed our lunch at the city park in Spearfish. I had food in the van and we got out the camp stove, we had a nice warm lunch.
